【Abstract】

Objective: To revise the Chinese Version of the Awe Experience Scale (AWE-S-C) and to test its reliability and validity in Chinese culture. Methods: 1057 adults were recruited online. After induced awe by the BBC’s Planet Earth, they completed the AWE-S-C. And the dispositional positive awe, self-rating of awe emotion, big five personality and satisfaction with life were used to be the criterion. 50 adults were randomly selected to complete the AWE-S-C about four weeks after the first investigation. Results: The exploratory factor analysis showed that AWE-S-C comprised six fac⁃ tors, which was consistent with the original scale, accounting for 63.10% of the total variance. The confirmatory factor analy⁃ sis verified a six factors model. The AWE-S-C score was positively correlated with the dispositional awe emotion, self-rat⁃ ing of awe emotion, openness and satisfaction with life. Reliability coefficients of the six dimensions and the total scores ranged from 0.721~0.894, and the test-retest reliability ranged from 0.314~0.824. Conclusion: AWE-S-C has good validi⁃ ty and reliability, and can be used as a decent instrument to assess state awe.
