The Tsinghua University International Research Center for Culture and Technology, School of Social Science (hereinafter referred to as "the Center") is an institutional-level scientific research organization officially established with the approval of Tsinghua University. It was initiated by the School of Social Science at Tsinghua University at the request of the Publicity Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in 2018.
The Center's mission is to "inspire, guide, and motivate civilization from a positive perspective of human nature; explore new directions, principles, and standards for human civilization under the advocacy of altruism." Leveraging the deep scientific research and talent resources and interdisciplinary advantages of the School of Social Science at Tsinghua University, the Center adheres to the principle of "practicing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, exploring the common destiny of humanity," with the aim of building cultural and technological confidence for the nation and promoting national cultural and technological competitiveness. The Center employs a comprehensive scientific research methodology to conduct in-depth research and analysis of various global cultural and technological macro, meso, and micro realities and trends, exploring theoretical and practical breakthroughs with Chinese characteristics in cultural and technological governance, and contributing to decision-making in cultural governance for humanity.
Supported by four primary disciplines: Political Science, Economics, Sociology, and Psychology, the Center combines diverse knowledge of Eastern philosophy, art, religion, cultural anthropology, engineering, and information technology to construct a unique research mission of "integrating cultural values and technological values." Since its establishment, with strong support and attention from the Publicity Department, relevant ministries and commissions, and related departments of the university, and under the strategic requirement of "more innovation, more internationalization, and more humanism" at Tsinghua University, the Center has established an internationally-oriented research team in a short period of time, established a work mechanism to undertake important Party and state tasks and special research, participated in many important surveys involving national livelihood, developed a core scientific research fundraising theory of "collaborative value for global cultural governance," and formed a powerful scientific research fundraising team.
The Center will continue to conduct research in various areas, including the forefront of cultural and technological development, cross-cultural communication, the integration and development of cultural and technological industries, and the modernization of cultural governance capabilities. It will launch many research projects, including "global civilization research," "the community of shared human destiny," "century-old enterprises," "cultural brands," "common prosperity," "carbon neutrality," "new energy," and more. The Center benchmarks itself against world-class scientific research institutions in the fields of humanities, social sciences, and cultural technology, combines China's social reality, and applies rigorous, scientific, practical, and targeted social research methodology to continuously analyze social phenomena, study social problems, and explore solutions. Its goal is to build the Center into a world-class professional think tank, provide talent guarantees for the development of cultural technology, build a collaborative innovation platform for the development of national cultural industries and global cooperation, realize cultural and technological scientific research for the country, and actively disseminate information domestically and internationally.
