
The Fifth World Charity Forum, co-sponsored by Tsinghua University, the University of Hong Kong, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, opened on September 5 in Beijing. Vice Chairman of the NPC Standing Committee Zhang Chunxian attended the opening ceremony and delivered a keynote speech. Former Hungarian Prime Minister Megyessy Peter, Nigerian Ambassador to China Baba Ahmad Jidda, and US National Academy of Humanities Academician John B. Cobb and more than 100 people attended the conference.
Zhang Chunxian pointed out that the vigorous development of philanthropy is one of the major revelations of the NGP epidemic, and is also an effective measure to calmly face various risks and challenges, stimulate social forces, and promote the all-round development of people and social progress. He expressed the hope that all the representatives and guests participating in this forum will put forward their vision for building a global charity ecology full of vitality and diverse symbiosis, unite together to overcome difficulties, promote the high-level and high-quality development of global public welfare and charity, and make new and greater contributions to building a community of human destiny.
The theme of this forum is "charity ecology, win-win challenge, sustainable development". The Forum focuses on issues such as science and technology, social services, ecological civilization, and international consensus, aiming to create a broad space for public welfare and charity and promote the professional development of world public welfare undertakings and public welfare industries. The Forum invited professionals from different countries and regions in Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Africa, including governments, enterprises, charities, and higher education institutions, to jointly discuss, build consensus and promote action.
The World Charity Forum has become an important platform for sharing experiences, academic exchanges, policy advocacy, and practical promotion in charity and social services worldwide. The holding of this forum is precisely aimed at continuously injecting new connotations into common interests, common pursuits, and common values of mankind, thereby promoting the development of charity and human civilization, enhancing the mutual understanding and moral accumulation of the people, contributing to the global cooperation in charity and social work, and promoting world peace and stable development.
September 5 is International Charity Day and the Chinese Charity Day as stipulated in the Charity Law of the People's Republic of China. The enactment and improvement of the charity law is an important symbol of the progress of China's social undertakings, which has ushered in a new era in which there are laws to go by. On August 17 this year, the 10th meeting of the Central Financial and Economic Committee of the CPC emphasized that it is imperative to adhere to the people-centered development thought, promote common prosperity in high-quality development, correctly handle the relationship between efficiency and fairness, and establish the basic institutional arrangements for coordination and supporting of primary distribution, redistribution and tertiary distribution. Philanthropy in the third distribution, is to promote social fairness and justice of the moral strength.
